LIT 264 - American Romanticism 4 Credit(s) This course studies the flowering of American letters in the decades before the Civil War. American literary history for a long time has deemed this period the American Renaissance. This flowering includes the legacy of Gothicism and the Transcendentalist movement, and demonstrates variations on the concept of romance as a literary form. A variety of teaching and learning practices are included in this course: e.g., traditional lecture, oral readings, group discussions, creative and/or analytical writing, listening activities, oral and/or dramatic presentations, visits with authors, interviews, internet and off-campus activities, research practice, etc.
