LIT 221 - British Literature: The Long 18th Century

Students will investigate British literature from the late 17th through the early 19th century, which may include the study of authors such as Aphra Behn, Alexander Pope, Samuel Richardson, Eliza Haywood, William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge, Mary Shelley, and Jane Austen. Students will learn to interpret and situate literature in a national context while describing the impact of national literature on a culture and history and vice versa. Experiential learning activities may include group discussions, creative and/or analytical writing, and research practice. Students will show an understanding of the materials through a variety of activities including, but not limited to, critical and/or creative written assignments, class discussion, and quizzes/examinations.
