HSTA 102 - American History II 4 Credit(s) (CD) A survey of the important events and key issues involved in the emergence of the United States as a world power after the Civil War, and how that power has been exercised through the present day. Includes attention to the assimilation of foreign-born immigrants, the roots of Civil Rights activism with respect to African-Americans, and efforts to deal with the “Indian problem.” Student understanding will be evaluated on the basis of performance on examinations, and written assignments based on critical readings of assigned texts. Lecture with some group discussion.
