ARTZ 145 - Introduction to Glassblowing and Sculpting 4 Credit(s) This course will introduce each student to universal topics and techniques related to glass as a technical material, in tandem with using glass as an expressive material to convey artistic ideas. Blowing, sculpting, and coldworking glass as well as studio equipment operations will be covered in depth. The student will learn to move safely through the hot glass studio and learn the mechanics of teamwork, while creating finished glass work which expresses a personal perspective. Assessment will be based on quality of assigned exercises, the creation of 3-4 projects using glass, a daily journal/sketchbook, and presentation of a final PowerPoint portfolio. A minimum of 9 hours lab time per week will be required. $150 course fee
