COA 254 - Periodization for Sport Performance 2 Credit(s) Effective performance training programs must consider more than the fundamentals of exercise selection and progressive overload to maximize value for the athlete. Originally developed by Eastern European coaches and scientists, periodization strategies quickly proliferated throughout the athletic world after Soviet dominance in multiple competitions of the Olympic games was attributed to these “unusual” training approaches. This course will introduce the historical evolution and modern best practices of these strategies to maximize aerobic and anaerobic performance, minimize the risk of overtraining, and optimize training adaptations for a variety of training and athletic goals. Prerequisites: COA 250 or KIN 410. (fall, odd years)
