ENSC 269 - Map, Compass, & GPS

.  Navigation is fundamental to fieldwork. In this class, students will develop skills in geo-orienteering including map reading and use of a magentic compass, altimeters, and Global Position System (GPS) receivers. Students learn to describe accurate positions by use of Latitude and Longitude, Universal transverse Mercator, and U.S. Public Land Survey grid systems. Students will apply their new skills in a field setting and will execute traverses of land parcels and determine the location of provate and public land ownerships. Students will be able to share results via geographic information software. $40 Course Fee.
