Program Mission Statement
The mission of the BA degree program in Sociology is to establish an integrated, multidisciplinary foundation for more focused study in the discipline. A major in Sociology is intended to prepare students with a broad base of knowledge in the social sciences.
Graduate Outcomes
SOCIOLOGY MAJOR
- Discipline-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Graduates will demonstrate a comprehension of human groups and how they develop, how they are structured, and how they function.
- Communications skills (especially oral and written):
Students will acquire written and oral communication skills necessary to demonstrate problem-solving and technological skills consistent with the objectives of the Sociology Major.
Assessment
The graduate outcomes for the BA degree program in Sociology are assessed through the graduation/exit survey, alumni survey, feedback from internship supervisors, review of collected student- generated exhibits over time, and program self-study and/or reports from external reviews. The assessment plan for the BA degree in Sociology is available through the department.
