The UMW Department of Education strongly recommends that candidates seek licensure in more than one subject area (by combining one teaching major with at least one other teaching major or minor) to increase their hiring options. A  is also available with any teaching major, but does not lead to licensure

General Education: 32 Credits


Art Courses used for the major may also satisfy general education humanities requirements.

Additional Art Education K-12 Major and Course Information


Technology Requirement: Before registering for  students must have earned a passing score on the Information & Technology Literacy Exam, or at least a B- on either  Computer Basics for Educators (4 credits) or  Basic Microsoft Office (4 credits).

Students in an internship program (e.g., Class 5 teachers) will substitute  Internship for  .  Consult with the Post Baccalaureate advisor to determine appropriate number of credits.

Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED for adults, children and infants is required for all education majors prior to student teaching.   is recommended to fulfill this requirement.
